Sushi Marquee to Open at The Star in December

article author logo

This December, the Star in Frisco, the area’s premiere sports and entertainment district, will welcome its newest addition, Sushi Marquee. The fun-loving Japanese inspired concept combines great food and inventive cocktails with a lively, interactive environment that’s unlike anything else in DFW.

Sushi Marquee is the newest concept from the restaurant group Crafted Bar Concepts (CBC) which houses other restaurants/bars including shellfish sensation Shell Shack, Back 9 and Shakertins. The Sushi Marquee “dream team” is comprised of industry veterans Dallas Hale and Matt Saba (owners of Shell Shack and Back 9), Brad Hawkins (owner of Shakertins and Chopshop Sports Garage), Anthony Morel (co-owner of Shakertins and award-winning cocktail crafter) and General Manager James Hamous (a.k.a Skinny), who’s a partner in High Fives and The Standard Pour.

The Star’s First Sushi Restaurant Opens In Frisco Next Month

Sushi Marquee, from the restaurant group behind Shell Shack, Back 9 and Shakertins, is coming to the Star in Frisco this December. It’ll be the only sushi spot in the sports and entertainment district.

The eatery will feature 3,000 square-feet of space both in the dining room and on the patio. Both areas will seat about 125 people, including about 25 seats at the sushi bar. Local artist Aaron Grace’s murals decorate the space, and a wall of TVs above the sushi bar are slated to play clips from 80s and 90s films and pop culture along with “homage to Asian pop culture.

Collin County has a huge crowd of new restaurants and eateries, but I’m pretty sure there isn’t a place like Sushi Marquee, opening at The Star this December.

Sushi Marquee is the brainchild of Brad Hawkins, a graduate of Plano Senior High School with a cool resume. He’s had an acting career—he played the “mean, angry drunk” in 2014’s Boyhood (his words, not mine). He did a brief stint in country music in the mid ‘90s, going on the road with Tim McGraw and the Dixie Chicks. But according to Brad, opening Sushi Marquee is the career.

Chew on This: Sushi Marquee brings star-studded dishes to Frisco

FRISCO – When Dallas native Brad Hawkins left the Lone Star state for Hollywood, he didn’t know what was on the menu.

“I went to LA, had about $300 and a little Honda Accord,” Hawkins told Newsfix. “I went out there and slept on my buddy’s floor and started going to auditions.”

And suddenly, a star was born. From the Power Rangers, to VR Troopers, to the Oscar-nominated film Boyhood, Hawkins has had his fair share of gigs. But after almost 25 years in the entertainment business, he was looking for a fresh start. And what’s fresher than sushi?

A Former Power Ranger Has a New Calling as Owner of an 80s-Themed Frisco Sushi Restaurant

Suburban Dallas diners perhaps have encountered him at restaurants in which he’s invested, where he might distribute a round of drinks and spare a moment for small talk. His latest venture: the recently premiered Sushi Marquee in Frisco.

The '80s-tinged sushi restaurant seems like less of a stretch if you know of Hawkins' other endeavor, an '80s pop tribute band called Awesome Sauce.
